Child Protection and Social Services Involvement
If Social Services are concerned about your child’s wellbeing, they may invite you to meetings or send you letters outlining their concerns. This stage — often called pre-proceedings or PLO (Public Law Outline) — is a chance to work with the local authority to resolve issues before any legal action is taken.
You don’t have to face this alone. We’re here to explain what’s happening, help you understand your rights, and support you in meetings with social workers or solicitors appointed by the local authority.
If Social Services have already taken the matter to court, please see our Care Proceedings & Special Guardianship page for further help.
We can assist with:
-
It involves child protection conferences.
-
Letters before proceedings from the local authority.
-
Support during meetings with social workers.
-
Aim is to resolve concerns without going to court, but can lead to proceedings if not addressed.
Legal Aid only: Legal Aid can be available but is not automatic — eligibility depends on your situation and the stage you're at.
If you are not eligible for Legal Aid, our sister firm, Rawlins Davy Reeves, offers private family law services and can provide further guidance.
