Care Proceedings, Special Guardianship and Local Authority Involvement

When Social Services believe a child may be at risk, they may start a legal process known as care proceedings. This can be an incredibly stressful time for families, especially if there’s a possibility of a child being removed from the home.

At Jacobs & Reeves, we support parents and carers through every step of this legal process, helping you understand your rights and ensuring your voice is heard in court.

This includes situations where the court may consider placing a child into foster care or with a special guardian (such as a grandparent or relative).

We can assist with:

  • Representation at PLO (public law outline) meetings.

  • Responding to letters from social services.

  • Legal advice on your rights and options.

  • Ongoing support if the case escalates to court.

If Social Services are involved but court proceedings haven’t started yet, you may need advice under our Child Protection and Pre-Proceedings services instead.

Legal Aid only: Legal Aid is automatically available for parents or carers invited to a PLO meeting or facing care proceedings.

We’re here to stand with you and ensure your voice is heard. Speak directly with one of our family law specialists by booking your free consultation now.
