LITIGATION

  • Personal Injury
  • Construction.
  • Commercial and Contract Disputes
  • General Civil Litigation.
  • Employment (Employer and Employees)
  • Professional Negligence (including medical case)

Our Lawyers

Rod Dutton, our Consultant Solicitor in charge of the Department, is a Fellow of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers.  He has over 20 years experience representing injured Claimants including work accidents, road traffic accidents, industrial disease, fatal accidents and catastrophic injuries.  He has also specialised in employment law throughout his career, including many years dealing with Trades Unions and their members.  His current litigation case load includes commercial and construction disputes, libel and land/boundary disputes.

Vernon Mitchell is a Litigation Executive of more than 30 years experience in both the public and private sectors.  He specialises in construction and property related litigation principally for local authority and voluntary sector organisations but also for private individuals and corporate clients. He has extensive knowledge of Civil Engineering matters and consequentially readily understands and can explain the practical issues and terminology involved in construction disputes. He specialises in advising on all aspects of property litigation and has particular experience of re-development of contaminated land, reclamation issues and environmental litigation.

Paul Gibbs is a qualified solicitor dealing principally with landlord and tenant disputes (both residential and commercial). He also deals with claims in professional negligence, and all aspects of company and commercial litigation, together with general contract and personal injury claims.

“No Win No Fee” and Other Funding Arrangements

Most of our Personal Injury claims are run under Conditional Fee Agreements so that the Client is fully protected against any liability for payment of legal costs.  With litigation insurance supporting a claim the Client can rest assured that he or she will be indemnified against any claim for legal costs and has no liability to pay fees to Jacobs & Reeves in the event that a claim fails.  The Client receives the full compensation payment, the costs being paid by the insurance company responsible for payment of the claim.

In 2007/08 we have recovered well over £6M in compensation for injured Claimants.

In employment cases, where Tribunal rules do not provide for payment of legal costs, the firm is often able to agree discounted charging rates or contingent charging rates depending on the outcome of the case.  Further details available on request.

For commercial litigation, contingency fee agreements are sometimes available.  Where cases are privately funded all charging rates are as approved by the local Courts.
